We have invested in the latest design to print and finishing technologies which allows us to offer efficient large format printing at a commercial and impressive quality level and all designed, printed, cut and finished in house.
Manufacturing Process:
Calendared vinyl is made by extruding the vinyl mixture through rollers, which flatten and stretch it into a thin sheet. This process is similar to rolling out dough.
Properties:
Thickness and Durability: It is typically thicker (3-6 mils) and less durable compared to cast vinyl.
Conformability:
Less conformable, making it better suited for flat or slightly curved surfaces. It doesn’t perform well on complex curves or surfaces with deep recesses.
Shrinkage: More prone to shrinkage over time due to the internal stresses created during the manufacturing process.
Cost: Generally less expensive than cast vinyl.
Best Use:
Ideal for short to medium-term applications, such as banners, signs, and graphics on flat surfaces.
Suitable for indoor and outdoor use but with a shorter lifespan compared to cast vinyl (typically 3-6 years).
Manufacturing Process:
Cast vinyl is made by pouring the vinyl mixture into a casting sheet and then heating it to form a thin, uniform film. This process creates a stable, flexible product with minimal internal stress.
Properties:
Thickness and Durability: Thinner (1.5-2 mils) and more durable, making it ideal for long-term applications.
Conformability: Highly conformable, allowing it to adhere well to complex curves, rivets, and deep recesses.
Shrinkage: Very low shrinkage due to the lack of internal stresses from the casting process.
Cost: More expensive than calendared vinyl.
Best Use:
Ideal for long-term applications, such as vehicle wraps, fleet graphics, and any application requiring high durability and conformability.
Excellent for surfaces with complex curves and intricate details, with a lifespan of 5-12 years.
Protection:
UV Resistance: Lamination adds a layer of UV protection, preventing the vinyl from fading due to sunlight exposure.
Physical Protection: Shields the vinyl from scratches, abrasions, and other physical damage.
Durability:
Extends the lifespan of the vinyl by protecting against environmental factors like moisture, chemicals, and pollutants.
Makes the vinyl easier to clean and maintain.
Appearance:
Enhances the visual appeal by providing a glossy or matte finish, making the colors more vibrant and the graphics more striking.
Ease of Application:
Helps in the installation process by adding rigidity to the vinyl, making it easier to handle without stretching or tearing.
Use Cases:
Vehicle Wraps: Protects graphics from harsh conditions and maintains the look over a longer period.
Outdoor Signage: Ensures that signs remain clear and vibrant despite exposure to weather elements.
Calendared Vinyl: Thicker, less conformable, more prone to shrinkage, less expensive, suitable for short to medium-term applications on flat or slightly curved surfaces.
Cast Vinyl: Thinner, highly conformable, minimal shrinkage, more expensive, suitable for long-term applications on complex surfaces.
Laminating vinyl provides added protection, durability, enhanced appearance, and easier application, making it a valuable process for extending the lifespan and maintaining the quality of vinyl graphics in various environments.
Choosing between calendared and cast vinyl depends on the specific needs of your project, including the surface type, required durability, and budget.
Although adding lamination to vinyl is more expensive, it enhances its durability, UV protection, and visual appeal while making it easier to clean and apply, thus extending the lifespan and maintaining the quality of the graphics.
